Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicles: Radical Change for Electric Utilities?
Thursday, November 10, 2005 2:00 to 3:30 PM Eastern time
Sponsored by the Association of Energy Services Professionals (AESP)

Seminar Overview:
What has the potential to completely change the way we think about load management, pricing, energy storage, electric growth, efficiency, and gas stations? The answer is plug in hybrid-electric vehicles (PHEV). Our expert speakers will tell us how the technology is evolving, with a special emphasis on what electric utilities could do to promote and advance the high potential for the new “fusion” of the transportation and electric industries. They will address current pilot programs, technology tests, utility initiatives, and a national plug-in campaign.

The evolution of hybrid vehicles such as the Prius opened the door for the PHEV. Because of its electric drive motor, some simple modifications of adding high-performance batteries and a 110V charging system can create the PHEV. This has brought about the ability to get the best of both worlds: very cheap (about ¼ the cost of gasoline) around-town electric transportation, plus no limits gasoline charging on long distance trips. Pollution is reduced, reliance on oil imports drops tremendously, and one can imagine even charging cars on wind power from the grid…wind transportation without a sail. In addition, the potential grid benefit of having a large amount of battery storage is intriguing.

Moderator:
Bill LeBlanc, Boulder Energy Group

Speakers:
Mark Kapner, Austin Energy
Dean Taylor, Southern California Edison
Bob Graham, EPRI

How it works:
Simply sign up for the session through AESP by responding to this email with your completed registration form or accessing the registration form on the AESP Website at http://www.aesp.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3279.

Once your participation fee is processed, you will receive a phone connection number and password. Sorry, but our automated system will only allow us to send the information to the individual who registers. No exceptions!

You will also receive a URL of where on the Internet you can go to view and download the presentations.

Call in at 2:00 PM eastern time on November 10, 2005 to listen and learn. Access the Internet to the URL specified and follow along on your computer as the slides are discussed by the presenters on the conference call. After the presentations, you will have an opportunity to ask questions and get answers. It’s that simple!

The session will last about 90 minutes (1½ hours) depending on how many questions there are from the participants. There will be a limited number of call participants so don’t wait to sign up. For a small additional fee you can have an unlimited number of additional people listen in as long as there is only one telephone connection used. So, if you have others in your organization who would also benefit from the information, sign up for group participation, grab a speakerphone and ask them to join you.

Cost:
AESP members pay $75 for a single participant. The program is also available to individual non-members for $175, or pay a $225 fee which includes the registration fee for this seminar PLUS a 12 month membership in AESP. This will enable you to register for future Brown Bag seminars at the member price. Groups may participate from a single phone connection for $150 for AESP members and $250 for non-members or a mix. If the non-member registering for group participation would like to join AESP, simply pay $300. Sorry, but we must charge separately for each phone connection.
