Businesses soak up perks of large solar energy installations
From an article by Michael King in the Appleton Post-Crescent:
TOWN OF MENASHA — Bright, sunny days will do more than just put workers in a better mood at the Neuroscience Center that opens to patients Tuesday. The Neuroscience Group of Northeast Wisconsin at W. American Drive and Winnebago County CB is a green-built medical facility that includes one of the largest solar power installations in the Fox Cities on its roof. The solar unit, which started Jan. 25, involves 70 165-watt solar electric (photovoltaic) modules that are expected to generate about 11,000 kilowatt hours per year. A separate meter records the output and Neuroscience will receive a credit on its electric bill up to $2,700 annually through the We Energy Solar Buy Back program.By month’s end, however, another west side town business, the corporate offices of SCA Tissue across U.S. 10 in the McMahon Business Park, will start its own rooftop solar system that will be about twice the size.
The trend toward solar is due to the availability of grant, tax credit and incentive programs that encourage development of renewable energy and increased efficiencies in solar systems.
